The night began in a special way: the champions of the Supercopa Argentina received the ovation from the four sides of the Monumental, after achieving the historical title last Wednesday, in Mendoza, against Boca Juniors. Thus, the Stadium joined in an eternal applause when the players showed the trophy.

Already in the game, before the two minutes, Gonzalo Martínez took advantage of a mistake in the opponent’s kick-off: he dodged and weaved a defense and then struck a powerful left shot that defeated Lucas Acosta’s resistance for the 1-0.

With the advantage in favor, River became the owner of the match. It had the second at Nacho Fernández’s feet, first with a free kick that went very near the right corner of Belgrano’s goalkeeper and then with a shot from middle distance that went out deflected in that same sector.

It also bothered with a shift from Lucas Pratto and a center backwards that no mate could push. Later, Pratto himself shot a cross right kick that Acosta could handle to the corner kick. In the last one, Nacho Fernández had an unbeatable situation: Mora left the ball ready within the area and the 26 kicked a deflected shot in front of the goal.

In the second half, Belgrano bothered with a high shot from Jonás Aguirre and then River went near with a deflected shot from Nacho Fernández. In a short rebound from Franco Armani, Epifanio García found the tie, but el Millonario did not surrender and went out to look for the second score.

Mora and Jonatan Maidana had it both with headers and then, Acosta incredibly blocked the goal to Scocco, who had just got in the field. Pity Martínez also had his chance, with a right shot deflected within the area. However, after trying so hard, el Millonario achieved the well-deserved advantage.

And everything was at Scocco’s feet. First, he defined with a cross a run from Camilo Mayada and then he faced the area and, with a left shot, put the ball next to Acosta’s right goalpost. In this way, Marcelo Gallardo’s team won once again, had its second consecutive victory in the Superliga and ended an ideal week.
