After the initial minutes without much going on, River had the first scoring chance thanks to a shot from Rodrigo Aliendro outside the box, but the shot rebounded, and Diego Rodriguez easily saved it. For its part, Godoy Cruz orchestrated two counterattacks: Ezequiel Bullaude failed to strike a cross from Gonzalo Abrego, and Tadeo Allende struck an off-target header.

In some fateful minutes, River found itself losing 2-0. Firstly, Martin Ojeda sent a shot into the near goalpost and Abrego tapped the ball in the middle of the box, following a play on the left-hand side. El Millonario had the chance to take one back with a pirouette by Leandro Gonzalez Pirez off a free kick. Toward the end of the first half, Lucas Beltran struck a powerful right-footed shot that went just wide of the goal.

River went into the second half with a few changes, managed to recover and orchestrated a good collective play in the attack, that culminated in a shot by Paulo Diaz that was saved by Rodriguez. On another opportunity, Beltran made a wide pass to Santiago Simon, whose low left-footed shot was saved by the rival keeper.

El Millonario kept trying to even the score and Beltran had a very good chance: a header off a precise cross from Paulo Diaz that was excellently saved by Rodriguez. The Chilean player also had his chance, with a powerful long-range shot that was also saved by the keeper. Toward the end, Juan Quintero struck a left-footed shot that went just high over the crossbar.

River’s next match will be on Wednesday, against Barracas Central in San Luis, for the Argentine Cup. After that, River will play against Velez, for the local championship, next Sunday evening.
