River cruises into the final with an emphatic win
Eduardo Coudet’s team delivered an outstanding performance at the Mâs Monumental and defeated Rosario Central 1-0 thanks to a second-half penalty converted by Facundo Colidio. River will now await its opponent for the final, which will be played in Córdoba next weekend.
Fueled by the home crowd in an intense and emotional atmosphere, River showed the grit the match required, dominating from the opening whistle and punching its ticket to the Apertura final. River controlled the first half completely, while Central failed to create any real danger. The host's clearest opportunity came from the penalty Gonzalo Montiel was unable to convert.
The second half was more balanced, with the visitors seeing more of the ball and creating a bit more danger, but Coudet’s side struck first after Joaquín Freitas made a sharp run to win another penalty. This time, Facundo Colidio stepped up and calmly converted to make it 1-0 at the Mâs Monumental.
The final, set to be played in Córdoba, will see River Plate take on the winner of the clash between Argentinos Juniors and Belgrano. Meanwhile, River Plate will be back in action on Wednesday, again at home, when it hosts RB Bragantino in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana group stage.
