River hammered Atlético in Tucumán Marcelo Gallardo’s team won once again and is just one point below the top of the tournament: it beat Atlético 3-0, with goals scored by Moreira, Canuto (own goal) and Pity Martínez.

Before the first minute of the match, River struck a precise shot: after a rebound of a pass from Gonzalo Martínez, the player 10 of el Millonario caught it and saw Jorge Moreira on the right, passed him the ball and the Paraguayan, after placing it, kicked an amazing right to Cristian Lucchetti’s first goalpost and scored 1-0.
River had the control in the following minutes and could have scored the second one, after the local goalkeeper blocked a shot from Lucas Alario and Sebastián Driussi could not give direction to the header from that rebound.
Atlético Tucumán reacted and after bothering Augusto Batalla with isolated shots, Rodrigo Aliendro defined above the goalkeeper, but the score was disallowed owing to offside position. A goal scored by River was also disallowed for that same reason, after a great collective play and a definition from Alario.
In the second half, el Millonario started better and had two excellent situations at Alario’s feet: first, el forward could not define on a one-to-one and then banged Lucchetti’s left goalpost in a free kick. However, the local team reacted and had the leading role for some minutes in which it could reach the tie.
Batalla was responsible for a great catch of a low cross-shot by Leandro González and Moreira blocked Cristian Menéndez when he was facing the goalkeeper. But River stood up and defined the match in a gust: Ignacio Canuto scored an own goal after a shot by Driussi and Pity Martínez had a great downward definition to stamp the 3-0.
Then, everything belonged to River and there could have been more goals, after the local goalkeeper blocked two shots from Martínez and Lucchetti. Thus, Gallardo’s team added three points and is only one point below the top of the tournament. This Sunday, it will visit San Lorenzo in pursuit of the top of the championship.
