With two amazing goals, River beats Lanus at home Marcelo Gallardo's team won 2-1 at the Mâs Monumental Stadium with two goals by Jose Paradela and Braian Romero, on Matchday 5 of the Professional League, picking up its second win in a row.

Boosted by last matchday’s great win in Santa Fe, River welcomed Lanus focused on claiming all three points again and remaining constant to face Velez in the CONMEBOL Libertadores Cup. While River dominated during the starting minutes, the team found it difficult to threaten Fernando Monetti’s goal. River’s defense wasn’t under threat either as Lanus didn’t practically attack.
After a long-range shot from David Martinez, the goal was scored following a quick run up the field from River’s goal area. The team passed on the ball from left to right and Jose Paradela received it in the box: he stood firm to send a beautiful left-footed shot into the rival goal.
A few minutes later, el Millonario celebrated another amazing goal: within the box, Paradela received a pass from the side of the field, off a combination play between Esequiel Barco and Elias Gomez and backheeled a wonderful shot, setting up Braian Romero for a low-shot goal. During that turbulent first half, Lanus evened the score thanks to Lautaro Acosta off a play from the right-hand side.
Although River was dominating the second half, the first opportunity came at the feet of Jose Sand, who managed to strike a shot off after an overlapping run that put him right in front of Franco Armani's goal, who reacted well to deflect the shot over the crossbar. El Millonario counterattacked: Enzo Fernandez made an exquisite pass to Romero, but No. 19 failed to dominate while being one-on-one with Monetti.
On another good opportunity for River, Julian Alvarez received a pass from Barco on the left, made his way into the box, and struck a left-footed shot that was controlled by Monetti on the near post. Fernandez also had his chance, coming up the field from the back and striking a long-range right-footed shot that went just wide of the left corner. In the final minutes, Barco was close to scoring the third goal, but he struck an uncomfortable shot, from the left-hand side, that smashed against a post.
Thanks to this win, River now has eight points in the local championship. River’s next match will be against Velez, on Wednesday, in Liniers, in the CONMEBOL Libertadores round of 16.
