The champion wins and celebrates at home River Plate had an amazing football evening, skillfully beating Racing 2-1, with goals from Lucas Beltrán and Paulo Díaz, and received the Professional Football League trophy.

In the first half, River was practically in control. From the beginning, the team managed by Martín Demichelis showcased superiority and threatened Matías Tagliamonte’s goal with penetrating runs by Lucas Beltrán and Pablo Solari, setting the score at 1-0: No. 36 executed an overlapping run and fired an on-target cross that No. 18 collected to open the scoring.
The scoring opportunities kept coming: Solari ran up the right wing, creating a few clear chances, but the rival keeper made a low save on his right-footed cross shot. Then, Esequiel Barco smashed a shot against Tagliamonte’s right post, and the rival keeper made yet another low save on a shot from No. 21. Franco Armani made an amazing save on a shot from Nicolás Oroz by his left goalpost.
At the very start of the second half, River threatened to score again, when Solari struck a low right-footed shot that was saved by Tagliamonte. By the 65th minute, following a great collective play, Barco positioned himself in the box and struck a shot-on-goal that went just wide of the left goalpost. Finally, River’s persistence paid off, and the team deservedly set the score at 2-0 with a great header from Paulo Díaz off a corner kick. Toward the end, the away team reduced the deficit with a free kick goal from Jonathan Gómez.
After the final whistle blew, River was awarded the trophy on the playing field, continuing the celebration of the new title. The team will now focus on their next match against Brazil’s Inter, scheduled for Tuesday at the Mâs Monumental stadium, in the CONMEBOL Libertadores Round of 16.
