El Millonario played at the Monumental stadium for the Superliga tournament after its debut with a victory over Temperley. River won three points once again at an evening that started with complications and with unfavorable weather conditions.
With the first dangerous situation, the rival team scored a goal thanks to a header by Renato Civelli. However, River quickly took charge of the match and started to seek the draw with a header by Rafael Borre that was bocked by Facundo Altamirano, the goalkeeper.
The draw came thanks to a quick reaction after a corner shot: Gonzalo Martinez passed the ball to Nicolas De La Cruz; the Uruguayan kicked a precise center shot, and Javier Pinola took a full-length dive to score River’s first goal. Then, El Millonario kicked two shots from outside the area by Ignacio Scocco, but they were defected.
The first half ended with an amazing goal. River played fast, Pinola passed the ball to Martinez, and number 10 defined elegantly with a left shot near the area and scored a goal very similar to the one scored by Leonardo Pisculichi against Boca Juniors at the Sudamericana Cup of 2014.
During the second half, River took control, but Banfield worried the local team during the first minutes after a cross kick by Dario Cvitanich. On behalf of El Millonario, Pity tried from outside, and De La Cruz was not abe to apply precision to a low kick after a pass by Scocco through the left.
With Nacho Fernandez on the field, the rival goalkeeper committed a penalty kick, and the one in chrge of transforming it into a goal was Scocco with a powerful kick. River won its second victory on the Superliga tournament, and on its next date it will visit San Martin in San Juan, but before it will trave to Bolivia to play against Jorge Wilstermann on the Quarterfinals of the Libertadores Cup.
