The first clear play of the afternoon at the Monumental Stadium was at the feet of Rafael Borré and Matías Suárez: after a series of rebounds, River’s no. 7 defined with a closed angle, but couldn’t score. Then, Nicolás De La Cruz pressed Matías Ibáñez with a good free kick, which almost enters by the rival’s goal’s left goalpost.

Patronato responded and Cristian Tarragona tried Franco Armani, but River’s goalkeeper easily controlled the ball. De La Cruz tried again from outside the box and his shot passed close to Ibáñez’s right goalpost. In another free kick, Nacho Fernández fired a left-footed shot that went above the crossbar.

River was also the protagonist of the last plays of the first half, thanks to shots by Exequiel Palacios and Milton Casco, who caught the ball and tried a left-footed shot, which went straight to the hands of Patronato’s goalkeeper.

River dominated during the first minutes of the second half. Gonzalo Montiel almost scores the first goal, with a volley out of a corner kick. Then, Suárez had his chance with a crossed right-footed shot which went above Ibáñez’s goal.

However, River’s two goals came almost one after the other: firstly, Borré scored after a good pass by Suárez (who had received the ball from Palacios). In the next play, the Colombian player took advantage of an assist by De La Cruz and set the score 2-0 by means of a powerful left-footed shot. Suárez almost scores the third goal by means of a great shot.

Once on the lead, Marcelo Gallardo’s team didn’t slack off and went looking for the third goal. Gallardo resorted to the bench to move pieces and Nacho Scocco, one of the players who entered, went looking for a goal with a good play within the box and a right-footed shot which was deflected. Jorge Carrascal, who entered well, also had his chance to score.

Now, el Millionario will play on Friday for the Argentine Cup, while the next Superleague match will be against Arsenal, in Sarandí, before the second leg against Boca Juniors for the CONMEBOL Libertadores.
