RIVER WINS THE 2023 CHAMPIONS TROPHY! In Santiago del Estero, Martín Demichelis’ team played a fantastic match and deservedly beat Rosario Central 2-0, with goals from Facundo Colidio and Nacho Fernández.

River asserted its presence from the off, cornering Rosario Central and dominating the match during the first 20 minutes. Despite numerous opportunities to take the lead, the team’s attempts were met with solid responses from Jorge Broun. However, the opposing goalkeeper could do nothing to stop a spectacular volley from Claudio Echeverri that narrowly missed the right top corner of the goal.
In the following minutes, River created opportunities through the flanks with runs from Enzo Díaz and Pablo Solari, along with Echeverri’s consistent involvement in the offensive plays. Chances came at the feet of Facundo Colidio, a splendid free kick from Nico De La Cruz that hit the crossbar, another header from the Uruguayan midfielder, and an attempt from outside the box by Echeverry that Broun saved low. Another clear-cut chance materialized in a one-on-one situation for Solari, whose mid-height finish once again met the woodwork.
At the end of the first half, Central made a couple of attempts, but Franco Armani made confident saves. With five minutes left, River secured a well-deserved lead as Colidio tapped in after entering from the far post, capitalizing on Solari’s accurate delivery from the right, facilitated by a brilliant recovery from Esequiel Barco. In the early moments of the second half, Central came close to equalizing with a powerful, angled shot from Ignacio Malcorra that narrowly missed Armani’s left post.
River immediately responded with a long-range shot from Sebastián Boselli, forcing a two-stage save from Broun. Another attempt from De La Cruz was also denied by the goalkeeper. Miguel Borja came off the bench and quickly had his chance with a right-footed shot that almost sneaked past the opposing goalkeeper. With a numerical advantage due to Campaz’s expulsion, River continued to dominate and attack: Enzo Díaz made a run up the left and came close to scoring with a low left-footed shot.
In the final stretch, Demicheli’s team widened the lead: a well-executed combination in the attack, a brilliant pass from Barco, and a skillful finish from Nacho Fernández to set the score at 2-0, paving the way for a new title. The players unleashed celebrations in front of the River Plate fans who packed the stands, closing out the year with sheer joy and emotion.
