River wins at home and climbs to the top Martín Demichelis’ team beat Independiente Rivadavia 2-0 at the Mâs Monumental stadium, with a brace from Miguel Borja in the first half, and consolidated its position atop Group A in the PFL Cup.

While Independiente Rivadavia had the first chance before the two-minute mark, with a header from Victorio Ramis saved by Franco Armani, River Plate dominated thereafter: the team posed a threat with a dangerous cross from Andrés Herrera and a header from Facundo Colidio that struck the post. Later, Claudio Echeverri tested Gonzalo Marinelli, and Rodrigo Aliendro failed to capitalize on a long rebound from the rival keeper.
Finally, River secured the 1-0 lead with a goal from Miguel Borja: a superb header into the far corner following a corner kick. Borja came close to scoring the second goal off a cross from Herrera, but the 2-0 finally came from a triangle combination between Herrera and Pablo Solari, ending with a deflected right-footed shot from the Colombian player that caught Marinelli off guard.
In the early minutes of the second half, River continued to dominate and created two dangerous opportunities: first, a cross deflected by the rival keeper, and then a strong shot from Herrera that Marinelli saved with a diving effort to his left. In an impressive solo effort by Echeverri, Colidio positioned himself to strike a left-footed shot aimed at the near post, but Independiente Rivadavia’s keeper was well-placed to make the save. Around the 65th minute, Matías Reali tested Armani, but the River keeper responded with a brilliant save.
Demichelis’ team had a solid night, encountered no major difficulties, and secured another win in the PFL Cup. Bagging three points, River Plate now sits atop Group A with 17 points. Next Saturday they will visit Independiente in Avellaneda.
