River wins and remains at the top Martin Demichelis’ team capped off a perfect week following its Super Cup triumph: River beat Gimnasia La Plata 3-1 at the Mâs Monumental stadium, with goals from Claudio Echeverri, Leandro González Pirez, and Facundo Colidio.

The Super Cup champion took control of the game from the off, making its presence felt on the right-hand side with notable runs from Andrés Herrera, Santiago Simón, and Pablo Solari. They spearheaded the initial attacks, complemented by a long-range shot from Miguel Borja. However, Gimnasia capitalized on a defensive lapse and took the lead thanks to Benjamín Domínguez.
River quickly bounced back, with Claudio Echeverri starting to make his presence felt and emerging as a key figure in the search for an equalizer. Nelson Insfrán showcased his skills with a few impressive saves until “El Diablito” grabbed the ball on the left-hand side, penetrated the box, made a skillful move, and leveled the score at 1-1 with a powerful left-footed shot. Before the end of the first half, Franco Armani expertly denied two shots from Domínguez, and River had a couple of goal-scoring chances through Borja, a clear header from Paulo Díaz, and a left-footed shot from Pablo Solari.
In the second half, River struggled to sustain the momentum from the first 45 minutes and had its first chance around the 61st minute, with a right-footed shot from Solari that Insfrán saved low. At around the 69th minute, Leandro González Pirez tried his luck from distance: the deflection off Felipe Sánchez wrong-footed the opposing keeper, and River took a 2-1 lead.
River encountered no major difficulties and sealed the victory with a lovely finish from Facundo Colidio, following a pass from Nacho Fernández. With this win, River has reached 21 points and stays atop of Group A
