With a stunning home advantage, River tackled another Libertadores game, riding the momentum from the 1-0 win in Córdoba. The first part of the match was tightly contested, with Miguel Borja actively pressing and challenging every time the rivals moved forward. Talleres, on the other hand, could only approach Franco Armani’s goal by capitalizing on set pieces.

Cristian Tarragona attempted a shot from outside the box, but it went wide; meanwhile, threatened with a header from Paulo Díaz that was cleared by a rival defender. Pressing high, Santiago Simón recovered possession and found Rodrigo Aliendro, who pulled off a fantastic backheel for Borja to score and give the team a 1-0 lead. At the end of the first half, Armani made an outstanding save to deny Blas Riveros’s precise shot.

In the early minutes of the second half, River Plate scored the second goal. Maxi Meza delivered a cross from the left, and Simón tapped it in first-time in the box to virtually seal the tie. Around the 70-minute mark, Talleres pulled one back thanks to a coordinated attack and a finish from Federico Girotti.

River didn’t feel the blow and kept its game intact. After some substitutions, Claudio Echeverri nearly scored the third with a solid right-footed shot, but Guido Herrera made a crucial save at his left post. Marcelo Gallardo’s team had a smooth game and could have scored another goal, with Echeverri and Facundo Colidio both having their chances.

River Plate is set to face Colo-Colo in the quarter-finals: the first leg will be in Chile, and the second leg will be at the Más Monumental stadium. In the local league, River will host Newell’s this Sunday at 8:30 PM.
