The first half at the Mâs Monumental stadium was evenly matched, with River having more possession in the opponent's half, but posing little threat to Marcelo Barovero’s goal. In the first two opportunities, Andrés Herrera advanced down the right and unleashed two cross-shots; meanwhile, the rival threatened with a high header from Aarón Quirós. At the end of the first half, Esequiel Barco dribbled and crafted a good individual play, unleashing a low right-footed shot that narrowly missed the goal.
In the early minutes of the second half, Facundo Colidio advanced down the left and arrived under pressure to take a shot against Barovero, but the keeper managed to save it. In a promising attack, Enzo Díaz located Colidio, who couldn't hit the target with a quick strike from the edge of the goal area. Shortly after, Pablo Solari (who had just entered the field) received the ball from Barco, but his shot went wide.
Claudio Echeverri had his chance, with a right-footed cross-shot that Barovero palmed away to his left. In a thrilling finale, Banfield managed to take the lead with one of their few attacks, thanks to a left-footed strike from Braian Galván. Late in the game, River leveled the score with a superb goal from Pablo Solari (following a great play and cross from Barco). River went after the 2-1 lead, but failed to clinch the win. Now, the team will prepare for the next match, taking place next Sunday against Boca Juniors at the Mâs Monumental stadium.
