After the historic night of the Copa Libertadores against Jorge Wilstermann, River Plate received Argentinos Juniors with the aim of adding by threes in the tournament to continue at the top of the Superliga.

The beginning of the match had River as protagonist, controlling the ball and trying to get close to the goal of Argentinos Juniors. After a couple of approaches that did not entail much danger, el Millonario got the advantage thanks to a penalty kick by Gonzalo Martínez, after Juan Saiz’s hand caused by Ignacio Scocco.

Afterwards, the team of el Muñeco was close to widening the advantage: first Enzo Pérez had the chance of scoring through a header after a center kick from Marcelo Saracchi, then the goalkeeper blocked a shot to Scocco and the clearest, also at Pérez’s feet, with a precise shot that struck in Lucas Cháves’ right goalpost.

However, owing to the inattentiveness of the defense, the visitor team found the tie by means of a low shot by Nicolás González. River tried to approach through the left, but it was not fully effective and the first half ended with an unfair equality.

In the second half, Argentinos warned from the start through Damián Batallini, but then River controlled everything: Scocco had the clearest opportunity with an excellent shot after Saracchi’s center kick and then the opportunities arrived for Nicolás De la Cruz, Pity Martínez (with a free kick) and once again De La Cruz, in the last one of the match, in which his shot was blocked by the defense after a corner kick.

Now, el Millonario is second in the chart with ten points. In the next round of the Superliga, it will visit Tigre in Victoria.
