The match got off to a rough start, with Patronato taking the lead thanks to a shot by Gabriel Gudiño from the left-hand side that deflected off Paulo Diaz, el Millonario got back on its feet and went for the equalizer. River had a couple chances: a header by Julian Alvarez that was saved by Matias Mansilla, and a header by Esequiel Barco off a combination play between Tomas Pochettino and Santiago Simon.

Finally, it was Julian who evened the score: off a great long-range pass from David Martinez, Andres Herrera fired an on-target cross with the ball in midair that was controlled and headed by Julian. River kept trying to score and threatened Patronato with a shot by Enzo Fernandez from outside the box. The second goal was also scored by River’s No. 9, who blasted a tremendous right-footed shot directly into the rival keeper's near post.

The second half was off to a similar start, with Gudiño putting Armani to the test with a shot from the right-hand side, but el Millonario didn’t take long to attack: Julian struck a crossed right-footed shot, off a great assist by Pochettino, setting the score at 3-1. A few minutes later, Julian almost scored the fourth one with a left-footed shot that narrowly missed the goal. River went for more with a crossed shot by Simon that was saved by Mansilla.

Juan Quintero came onto the field and made a great assist to Julian, who failed to strike comfortably, resulting in the keeper saving his shot. Toward the end, Patronato’s keeper committed a foul on Quintero and River’s No. 10 took the penalty kick, scoring the first goal of his new chapter with River.

River has recovered from the defeat in Santa Fe, winning its first three points in the League Cup, and will play against Newell’s in Rosario on the next matchday.
