After having lost two points in the match against Defensa y Justicia last weekend, Marcelo Gallardo’s team needed to win three points against Vélez, so as not to lose its position in the tournament.

River Plate played smartly in front of its fans and it was always in control of the game. During the first half, it took advantage of the early sent off of Blas Cáceres and found itself in the lead with a goal by Sebastián Driussi: the forward caught a rebound from the rival goalkeeper and scored the 1-0.

At the end, after a penalty committed by Cristian Nasuti over Driussi, Lucas Alario scored the second goal (the first shot had been caught by Aguerre, but since he moved forward the goal line, the shot had to be repeated). In this way, ElMillonario reached the end of the first half showing a clear advantage and serenity to handle the game.

In the second half, River ended the match with another goal by Driussi (with which he became the tournament’s top scorer, with five goals). The forward shot a low ball after being left in the right position by Andrés D’Alessandro. Since that moment on, El Muñeco’s team was nothing but touch, luxury, and intelligence.

With this victory, which included wearing the new shirt, River reached 11 points and it is second in the tables. For the next game, it will visit Patronato.
