River thrashed Olimpia in La Plata Held on a great forcefulness, el Millonario won 5-1 and kept the Commemoration Cup against the Paraguayan team.

Marcelo Gallardo made good use of the recess due to the South American Qualifiers to get those players that didn’t have continuity into the field. And the result in La Plata’s night was more than positive: with a great group performance and a tremendous effectiveness in the attack, it beat Olimpia from Paraguay for 5-1.
River had control of the ball since the beginning and took a very few minutes to reflect it on the scoreboard: around the five minutes, Iván Alonso flicked a high ball on with his head, Rodrigo Mora got ready and hit a precise cross from the right so that his fellow countryman (this night’s captain) could use an accurate header to open the scoring at La Plata.
Afterwards, el Millonario had a couple of attempts, such as a free kick from Mora that the opponent’s goalkeeper blocked below. However, in a corner kick, Fredy Bareiro headed within the penalty area and scored 1-1. River had one more chance, thanks to a good parry of Denis Rodríguez within the penalty area and a subsequent cross that didn’t get to its destination.
In the second half, el Muñeco’s team was a machine: in a gust, it scored three goals and wrapped up the encounter: first, Raúl Villalba deflected a shot from Gonzalo Montiel; then, Nicolás Domingo changed front for Mora, who volleyed the ball into the net, and Lucas Martínez Quarta struck a diving header to shout 3-1.
The best moment of the night arrived at the feet of Denis Rodríguez. River pressed on a kick-off, the midfielder received on the left and, after getting into the area, struck a right kick with effect that dived into Víctor Centurión’s left corner. Then, el Millonario could have extended the lead even more (Alonso and Larrondo scored goals with their heads, but were disallowed due to offside).
To close the scoring, Nacho Fernández provided a great assist to Lucas Alario, who hit the ball under the goalkeeper and was pleased to celebrate his goal. River’s next official commitment will be next Sunday, in Rosario, against Newell’s for the tenth round of the AFA championship.
