River stumbled in the Monumental Marcelo Gallardo"s team deserved more, but San Martín from San Juan found a goal at the beginning of the second half and defended it.

The Monumental Stadium dressed up again of celebration. Before the match, the champions of the 1986 and 1996 editions of the Liberatores Cup, had their well deserved tribute on the field, to less than two weeks of obtaining the actual edition by this historic River from Marcelo Gallardo.
River went out to the field with presence, without allowing the visitant team to play and rounded up San Martin. However, in that first half, the Millionaire team only generated a pair of clear situations, through Gonzalo Martínez and Nicolás Bertolo, while did not suffer in defense.
At the beginning of the second half, San Martin put the score 1-0 with a goal from Facundo Pumpido, who found a rebound inside the area and left Marcelo Barovero without chances. River was in search of the tie and, even though it was not entirely clear, deserved a little more: Luis Ardente proved to be safe, answered when they demanded it and the rival defense endured the result.
With this defeat, the Champion of America failed to reach the top position of the tournament. With one match less, Gallardo"s team is at six units from the leaders of the AFA tournament.
