River secures another win to stay in pole position Martín Demichelis’ team beat Talleres 1-0 at the Mâs Monumental stadium, with a goal from Salomon Rondón, placing River at the top of Group A in the Professional League Cup.

On a magnificent River Plate afternoon, the team delivered an exceptional first-half performance. Following a close call by Matías Catalán with a wayward header, River had a golden opportunity when Salomón Rondón went one-on-one, but his finishing lacked precision. Then, Nico De La Cruz attempted a cross-shot that Guido Herrera managed to control. After a swift counter-attack and a header by Paulo Díaz, the Venezuelan forward capitalized on the opposing keeper's poor clearance to set the score at 1-0.
Rondón found himself in prime position for a second goal, but before he could line up the shot, he was closed down. Talleres applied pressure towards the end, but Franco Armani stood his ground to deny Rodrigo Garro. Then, Ramón Sosa streaked up the wing and unleashed a left-footed shot that struck Armani’s right post. In one of the last plays, Nacho Fernández came close to scoring a stunner, but his shot found Herrera’s right post.
Less than five minutes into the second half, and following an excellent team combination play, Manuel Lanzini unleashed a low shot from outside the box, with the ball narrowly missing Talleres’ goal. The team from Córdoba responded with a powerful left-footed strike from Garro, and an even better reaction from Armani, who made a spectacular dive to prevent the equalizer. Around the 30-minute mark, Armani once again came up strong, making a solid save to deny a left-footed strike from outside the box.
In the final stretch, River held a solid defensive line and pressed forward in attack. River had good opportunities through the efforts of Pablo Solari, who took a right-footed shot that went high; Esequiel Barco, also with a wayward shot; and lastly, Miguel Borja. With this win, Demichelis’ team now sits as the sole leader of Group A, with 16 points. On the next matchday, River will visit Colón in Santa Fe.
