River recovers to beat Argentinos Juniors El Millonario was comfortably winning 2-0, but its rival evened the score. Playing with personality and confidence, River turned it around 4-2 and sits second in its group. The goal scorers were Suarez, Enzo Fernandez, Quintero, and Herrera.

Argentinos Juniors surprised River in the starting minutes of the match and set up a very dangerous play, with an overlapping run on the left-hand side and a shot on goal by Javier Cabrera, that was controlled by Elias Gomez, preventing them from scoring. The rest of the first half was practically dominated by River quickly taking the lead thanks to an exquisite shot by Matias Suarez, off a long-range shot from Bruno Zuculini and a defensive error by the rival team.

While River was still celebrating Suarez’s goal, Enzo Fernandez received the ball while facing Argentinos’s goal and sent a powerful shot into Federico Lanzillotta’s right goalpost. River had another clear chance to score when Julian Alvarez almost scored a free kick. However, el Millonario couldn't keep up and Gabriel Avalos scored a low header. Gallardo’s team kept trying to score and Suarez was close to scoring the third goal off a great assist from Julian. Toward the end of the first half, the away team threatened Franco Armani's goal. Alvarez also had an unbeatable chance to score, but his left-footed shot went wide of the goal.

At the beginning of the second half, Argentinos Juniors evened the score off a set piece, thanks to a goal by Lucas Villalba. River found it hard to recover, but Armani made an excellent save, preventing Avalos from scoring the third goal. In another attacking play, Alvarez struck a shot on goal, that was cleared by Lanzillotta, but Fernandez received the ball and smashed a long-range shot against the crossbar.

And then River recovered: Julian struck a right-footed shot off an assist from Juanfer Quintero, the ball bounced off Torren's hand after he fell to the floor, causing the referee to award River a penalty and Torren to be sent off after his second yellow card. River’s No. 10 took the penalty kick and set the score at 3-2 with a low left-footed crossed shot. Then, Quintero set up an attacking play and passed the ball to Braian Romero, who failed to score his left-footed shot.

River recovered its poise and dominated the rest of the match, setting up clear plays, and wrapped up a 4-2 win with a goal by Andres Herrera, off an exquisite pass from Fernandez. Thanks to this important victory, River now has 19 points and sits second in Group A. Next Sunday, on Matchday 10, the team will visit Banfield. In the meantime, River’s next CONMEBOL Libertadores match will take place on Wednesday against Fortaleza at the Mâs Monumental Stadium.
