River loses away against Vélez On Matchday 3 of the Professional League Cup, Martín Demichelis’ team lost 2-0 in Liniers.

In a very tight and competitive first half, with few attacking plays from both sides, the home team had the first scoring chance: directly after a dribble by Braian Romero, Juan Méndez took a shot on goal, but Franco Armani made a low save on it. Then, Vélez took the lead with a shot from Claudio Aquino after a deflection. River tried to come together in the attack, but failed to perform as in previous games and found it difficult to threaten Gastón Gomez's goal.
The second half started off with a good free kick awarded to Vélez: Aquino took the shot and Armani saved it to his right. River responded with a long-range right-footed shot from Nicolás De La Cruz, which was deflected. The home team had another clear chance with a shot by Romero from outside the box, but Armani prevented him from scoring.
Vélez capitalized on a bad clearance and Castro sent a powerful right-footed shot into Armani’s left goalpost, setting the score at 2-0. A few minutes later, River was close to reducing the deficit, with a shot from Esequiel Barco, which was saved by Gómez.
The home keeper made another good save on a shot from outside the box, preventing Santiago Simón from scoring. River couldn’t round off a good game evening in Liniers and suffered its second loss in the Professional League Cup. On the next matchday, scheduled for the weekend of September 17th, River will host Arsenal at the Mâs Monumental stadium.
