Even though all eyes were on the CONMEBOL Libertadores match, River visited Huracan's Stadium seeking to add by three in the local tournament and increase players’ field time. In the 2nd minute, Agustin Palavecino, standing on the left-hand side, struck a right-footed shot that narrowly missed Lucas Chaves’s goal. The home team counterattacked with a high header from Matias Coccaro.

After some time of the match being tight, Andres Herrera was quick to precisely block an attack by Huracan. River suffered a blow when Jonatan Maidana was sent off following VAR review. A few minutes later, Jonathan Galvan made the most of a series of rebounds and set the score at 1-0 for the home team, sending a low right-footed shot into the near post.

With Esequiel Barco and Jose Paradela on the field, el Millonario tried to even the score and, at the beginning of the second half, stood firmly on the rival side of the field but found it hard to make any concrete attacks to Chaves’s goal. River kept trying but Huracan widened the lead, following a long-range pass received by Gabriel Gudiño, who set up Franco Cristaldo for the goal.

Gallardo’s team reduced the deficit thanks to a header off a rebound from Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, and a cross from Herrera on the right-hand side. Nonetheless, in the following play, Huracan was awarded a penalty and Cristaldo took it, setting the score at 3-1. In stoppage time, Julian scored a good header, setting the final score at 3-2. River’s next match will take place on Wednesday, at the Mâs Monumental Stadium, where the team will try to turn the series around against Velez and qualify for the quarterfinals.
