Copa nights are back in the Monumental Stadium and the team matched up: it sustained its great collective moment and added in threes once again. It fairly won against Melgar, thanks to a sustained performance in its group game, in which luxuries could be enjoyed.

In a first vibrant half, el Millonario gave once again proof of its character. It started badly, because Melgar warned in a one-to-one that Augusto Batalla blocked to Emanuel Herrera, but the forward had revenge minutes later and scored the surprising 1-0 for the visiting team.

Then, River began to gain trust and consolidated its game through the right side. The tie arrived with Ignacio Fernández’s amazing goal, after a very good individual play of Lucas Martínez Quarta: the defense went beyond and sent a low center that the midfielder sent to the net with a precise back heel.

Right away, el Millonario shouted the second one: Sebastián Driussi pushed a header by Jonatan Maidana after a corner kick. However, Melgar found the tie with another score by Herrera, this time a header, after a neglect of the defense on the left side.

But River had more. Martínez Quarta invented a fantastic half scissor kick goal after a series of rebounds and gave it the advantage 3-2. Then, Marcelo Gallardo’s team could have broadened the difference, with Milton Casco and Gonzalo Martínez’s shots.

The second part was less vertiginous, but River left no doubt at any time, it settled down and kept the advantage. After a series of approaches, Driussi made good use of an assist by Nacho Fernández and with a high and strong shot scored the final 4-2.

Thus, el Millonario leads Group 3 with six points. This Sunday, it will visit Tigre in Victoria for the local tournament, in round 20.
