River was quick to take control of the ball and, in the first minutes, it practically prevented Chivas from crossing to the other half of the pitch. The first attempt came after a great play from the right, which ended in a centre pass from Gonzalo Montiel to Rafael Borré, but the Colombian’s top shot was blocked by Hiram Mier.

The chances to score kept coming: a high header by Julián Álvarez after a corner kick and another shot by Nacho Fernández after a pass by Borré, which was deviated. Enzo Pérez, before leaving his place to Cristian Ferreira due to physical discomfort, also had his chance by means of a right-footed shot which went close by Antonio Rodríguez’s goal. The goalkeeper blocked a clear one-on-one against Borré.

Ferreira had his head in the game and was active in the attack. The u-20 player tried from afar and the goalkeeper responded well. In the next play, Borré had another chance. Finally, the well-deserved first goal came by means of a free kick by Nicolás De La Cruz, who sent it straight to Rodriguez’s right angle. Then, Borré scored the second one with a good right-footed cross, after an assist by Ferreira.

El Millionario made the move that determined the game before the first minute of the second half ended: a great individual play by Nacho Fernández, by means of a chip shot, and De La Cruz sent the rebound against the goalpost into the goal with a header. Having the score in their favour, River relaxed a bit, but without being careless.

Enrique Bologna gave a good response to his first threat, converting a header by Alan Pulido into a corner kick. Then, Chivas scored due to an unfortunate play by Montiel, who tripped over the ball after Bologna’s save. However, Gallardo’s team scored the fourth goal thanks to Nacho Fernández: a powerful left-footed shot after a good pass by Exequiel Palacios.

River went for more and after a few attempts to score, Benjamín Rollheiser indulged himself by celebrating his goal, after taking advantage of a pass behind Montiel in Chivas’ area. Thus, el Millionario won 5-1 and now awaits its next commitment, which will be on July 6th against Mexico’s América.
