In a hard-fought match beginning, the goal situations took long to arrive. Firstly, el Millionario threatened with a deflected volley by Fabrizio Angileri and, then, with a crossed center pass by the same player, who couldn’t find a teammate. However, the first goal came by means of an impressive play by Ignacio Scocco, who dominated with his backheel, controlled the ball and set up Jorge Carrascal for a crossed goal.

Then, the local team disturbed Enrique Bologna: cutting around on the left, the team almost scores the first goal and then it had other very clear opportunities by means of a deflected header by Manuel Guanini and a one-on-one saved by River’s goalkeeper. In the next plays, Horacio Tijanovich wasn’t able to head the ball and, then, Bologna shone when met with a header by Guanini.

River could have scored the second one in a couple of attacking plays, such as a good move between Carrascal and Angileri, but the shot by today’s midfielder from the left was deflected. In the last attempt, Santiago Sosa tried through a deflected shot from outside the box.

At the beginning of the second half, Gimnasia was close to evening the score with two practically identical shots by Brahian Alemán, which were crossed and from the left. River also had its chance, with a header by Julián Álvarez. The local team was also close by means of a crossed center pass by Matías Melluso, that Maxi Comba couldn’t catch.

Then, Bologna made his presence known again when met with a shot from afar by Víctor Ayala. And el Millionario leveraged a series of rebounds: Nacho Scocco controlled in the area and scored a right-footed bomb, scoring goal number 2, in La Plata. Then, el Millionario could have widened the gap through plays by Benjamín Rollheiser and Carrascal.
