River couldn’t pull off a win to hold onto a top position in the group. In a match where the team fell behind early due to Alexis Castro’s goal, River pushed until the end and created chances but couldn’t turn the result around.

In the first half, Gallardo’s team had its chances with opportunities from Gonzalo Martínez, Maximiliano Meza, and Franco Mastantuono. Paulo Díaz even scored with a header, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Before the break, Gonzalo Montiel and Mastantuono once again had chances to equalize.

In the second half, River didn’t create as many chances and then struggled after Enzo Pérez was sent off. In stoppage time, Estudiantes made it 2-0 with a goal from Santiago Ascacibar after playing out from the back. River will now play the Supercopa Internacional final against Talleres on Wednesday and will host Atlético Tucumán next weekend.
