After winning the Argentina Cup and thus confirming its place for next year’s Libertadores Cup, River played in Bahía Blanca the last game before the recess of the AFA tournament and won against Olimpo.

Leaded by its top scorers, Alario and Driussi, Marcelo Gallardo’s team won by 2-1 and unleashed the joy of the Millonario fans that overwhelmed the visitors’ area at the Roberto Carminatti Stadium.

An early goal by Cabalucci at the first 7 minutes gave Olimpo the advantage and seemed to complicate River’s evening. However, this did not affect River plans and it kept its determination to take the game to the opponent’s area.

With projections by the wing players, with Nacho Fernandez’s clarity to lead and with an active Gonzalo Martínez, El Millonario was able to corner its opponent and had a few opportunities: the most clear one before the tie was when Pity hit the crossbar with a left shot from outside the area.

The score got even –very well deserved- thanks to Alario, who just came from scoring three goals during the final against Rosario Central. After an effective play by Mora on the right, number 9 appeared in the area to shoot the ball to the goal, to tie the score and to add another celebration.

Driussi’s mobility and an always-threatening Alario created difficulties for the defense from Bahía Blanca during the entire second half, although the team lacked precision on the last shots to reach the advantage.

However, at minute 29, Pérez Guedes hit Mayadain the area, who had just entered the game, and the referee called a penalty. Driussi, with a conclusive shot, hit the center of the goal and set the score at 2-1, and scored for the tenth time in the tournament, which keeps him at the top of the charts.

From then until the end, River handled the game almost without suffering in its area and ended its visit to Bahía Blanca with three important points to continue in the tournament.

Now they will have a very well deserved rest and continue with a new year filled with important local and international challenges.
