It was a special day in the Monumental Stadium, owing to a new anniversary of the Institution, but the celebration could not be complete, since Deportivo Independiente Medellín won the match.

In the first half, River took the initiative and had control of the match. Before the three minutes, and after a grip on Carlos Auzqui within the area, el Millonario had the opportunity of a penalty kick, but Lucas Alario’s shot was caught by the goalkeeper David González.

However, Marcelo Gallardo’s team continued with the clear idea and moved forward towards the rival goal, but it was not incisive enough. In defense, it practically did not get any fright and the deb Maximiliano Velazco answered with confidence and well above the few times he was required to.

The away team struck in the second half. After a couple of interventions by Velazco, John Hernández defined downward within the area and scored 1-0. Then, Andrés Mosquera kicked a high volley into the net and scored 2-1. In those minutes of bewilderment, River’s goalkeeper showed confidence and made many important appearances.

River tried to react and had situations, but the score arrived a few minutes before the end after a rebound that Arturo Mina caught after Sebastián Driussi’s shot. However, there was not enough time to reach the tie. In this way, el Millonario classified first in Group 3, even though it did not get the first place in the general classification.

Now, on Sunday, it will receive Rosario Central for the 26th round of the local championship.
