Argentinos had the first opportunity of the match, with a shot from afar by Francis Mac Allister, which deviated. Then, River answered with a good play which was culminated by Matías Suárez, who tapped the ball and had a one on one with Lucas Chaves, but he lost the ball and the rival goalkeeper caught it.

Then, the home team threatened with a deflected header by Jonathan Sandoval. The goal came from a set piece, after a shot by Damián Batallini which was deflected to Suárez and surprised Franco Armani, who had moved towards his right goalpost. The clearest opportunity for el Millionario was a good play between Benjamín Rollheiser and Lucas Pratto, culminating in a shot by the forward, which Chaves saved.

In the second half, after a shot by Nicolás Silva which was saved by Armani, River took control and started threatening Chaves’s goal. Firstly, Rollheiser put a strain on the goalkeeper with a good left-footed cornered shot, after a pass by Nicolás De La Cruz. On another play, Elías López fired a shot which turned into a corner kick. There was more: after Cristian Ferreira approached the goal avoiding rival players, Rafael Borré couldn’t shoot and De La Cruz kicked the ball high.

However, the goal to even the match came after a good approach by Borré from the right and a centre pass to Jorge Carrascal, who scored a few moments after coming on. On the last play, River was about to win with a crossed right-footed shot by Suárez, but Chaves blocked it with one of his legs.

Thus, el Millionario’s Superleague debut ended in a draw, and now the team awaits Tuesday’s match against Cruzeiro, for the second leg of the Libertadores Cup Round of 16.
