ESRiver draws with Racing at the Monumental Stadium On Matchday 4 of the Professional League Cup, River drew 2-2: Gallardo's team had taken the lead thanks to Barco and De La Cruz, but Copetti and Miranda evened the score in the second half.
As in every match, el Millonario pressed Racing from the start and set up the first dangerous play, with an overlapping run by Elias Gomez on the left-hand side but was met with a good reaction from Gaston Gomez. Racing responded with a long-range shot by Leonel Miranda, but Franco Armani got a hand on it and deflected it over the crossbar. River set up another play: Enzo Fernandez struck a crossed right-footed shot that went just wide of Racing’s goal.
Esequiel Barco set the score at 1-0 with a nice shot, scoring his first goal wearing the River jersey. From the onwards, River dominated the match: Nico De La Cruz struck a dangerous crossed shot, Paulo Diaz struck a header that was deflected by the keeper, and Gomez made a double save on a header from Enzo Fernandez. De La Cruz scored the second goal with an on-target shot, after both Bruno Zuculini and Santiago Simon tapped the ball.
Racing was close to reducing the deficit in the starting minutes of the second half, when Leonardo Sigali failed to score off a free kick while facing Armani. On another play, Tomas Chancalay struck an off-target left-footed shot in the heart of the box. Racing finally reduced the deficit with a header by Enzo Copetti off a cross from Gabriel Hauche. River failed to dominate and lacked depth, but it almost scored the third goal thanks to a good shot by Zuculini and a corner kick by Juan Quintero that almost enters Gomez’s goal.
In the 37th minute, after a series of rebounds, Racing evened the score after Miranda headed the ball into Armani’s right goalpost. Toward the end, River went for the win, but Racing played well on their side of the field. El Millonario failed to add by three and continues to sit on seven points in Group A. On the next matchday, River will visit San Lorenzo.
