The evening encounter at the Monumental Stadium began with River in control and with the first goal chance: Nicolás De La Cruz received the ball within the area on the left, positioned himself and his shot, after being deviated by a defense, hit Leonardo Burián’s right goalpost.
However, Godoy Cruz got the first one through Juan Garro and the second one belonged to Santiago García, in a clear offside position. Before that, the referee Jorge Baliño did not give a penalty by Luciano Abecasis on Lucas Pratto. El Millonario had the chance to score at Rodrigo Mora’s feet, who could not position himself within the area.
The Uruguayan had his prize: after a good back heel by Pratto, Mora kicked low for the score. Before the end of the first half, River had the chance to tie in a long ball that could not be controlled in the area; the rebound was left to De la Cruz, who wanted to place it, but it went high.
In the second half, Marcelo Gallardo’s team went in determined to get the tie and achieved it just after the first five minutes: after a good play through the left, De La Cruz kicked a back pass to Pratto, who gave a great shot and shouted his first goal with the sash on his chest.
River continued with the same trend and virtually did not let Godoy Cruz play. Even though it had chances, River could not score the third goal to win the three points. Thus, the game ended 2-2 and now el Millonario will visit Vélez Sarsfield next weekend in Liniers.
