River couldn’t do it in Avellaneda With many of the first team players on a break, El Millonario lost against Independiente by 1-0, and its already focused on its next aim: the “Superclásico” and the final game of the Copa Argentina.

On the 12th date of the tournament, River visited Independiente with an alternative team, since many of the first team players were on a break. In Avellaneda, the midfielder Matías Moya (18) had its official debut and played along with other young players from the Club.
During this game, River played with a special uniform, since it wore green jerseys and shorts to pay tribute to the tragedy suffered by the Brazilian club Chapecoense.
The game started even. River controlled the ball but couldn’t find too much depth. However, Marcelo Gallardo’s team had the most clear chances during the first half: 7 minutes after starting, Montiel shot to the crossbar after receiving a center pass by Mora, and the crossbar denied him the goal. Then, another good pass from the side by the Uruguayan forward found Larrondo, who entered through the middle of the area and shot a header that barely went out.
During the second half, the game got more difficult and both teams had trouble getting to the other’s area. 26 minutes after, Vera converted a goal with a header for Independiente. El Millonario tried to respond and had a couple of close opportunities to draw the game, but the local goalkeeper stopped both shots: first he responded against a left shot by Mayada after a good individual performance, and, near the end of the half, he sent out a header by Driussi that aimed for the second post.
Thus came the end of the game, with the victory for the local team and with River who couldn’t deliver in Avellaneda but is now thinking of the demanding games ahead of it.
