The match did not start favorably for River. During the first minutes, the local team generated many goal situations and, after a few approximations, it converted a goal four minutes after the match had starded thanks to a kick by Edward Zenteno after a corner shot. In the following play, Germán Lux stopped a one-on-one that could have been Wilstermann’s second goal.

River reacted and began having the ball on its feet. Gonzalo Martínez suffered a few fouls, and the clear plays did not take long to appear. Rafael Borré could not kick two center shots from the left, and Pity deflected a powerful kick from outside the area that went by near Rafael Olivares’ left post.

During the second half, River had the first goal opportinuty with a header by Ignacio Scocco that was defected, but, in the following play, the local team made an offensive play, and Gilbert Álvarez scored the second goal with a header. From then on, El Millonario owned the match, but could not score at any of the very clear situations it created.

Scocco lost a goal opportunity alone in front of the goal after a header by Nacho Fernández. The forward also kicked a blunt shot, but it went above the crossbar. Fernández tried from outside, but the rival goalkeeper stopped his kick, who also deflected a powerful kick by Gonzalo Martínez that was about to enter the goal through the left post.

The local team took advantage once again of an offensive play, and Christian Machado scored the third goal with a kick from outside the area. Now, River has to score at least three goals and not have any goals from its rival at the rematch at the Monumental stadium to ensure the penalty shots.
