Banfield pressed at the start of the game, but River capitalized on a defensive lapse and Lucas Beltrán struck a low right-footed shot off an assist from Pablo Solari, opening the scoring. After an attack by the home team, in the form of a free kick by Brahian Aleman, River took over, setting the score at 2-0: No. 18 set up No. 36, who slotted home a powerful crossed shot.

River couldn’t maintain the momentum and Banfield got close to Franco Armani's goal: Luis Mago threatened with a header that went high, and Aleman missed the chance to get one back. After a great save by River’s keeper, Facundo Tello awarded Banfield a penalty for handball by Robert Rojas following VAR review, and Milton Giménez reduced the deficit, despite a great dive by River’s captain.

The second half had barely started when Giménez collected a rebound and struck a right-footed shot that went just wide of Armani’s left post. River’s Nico De La Cruz burst upfield, opened up a pass to Nacho Fernández, who tapped the ball to the center and Beltrán struck an on-target shot, setting the score at 3-1. On one of his many upfield runs, Andrés Herrera struck a shot from outside the box, forcing Facundo Cambeses to dive low to save what could've been River’s fourth goal.

With this well-deserved lead, River dominated the game, shined in the attack and topped it off with a header goal from Salomón Rondón off a fantastic cross from Matías Suárez on the right wing. With this win, River remains at the top of the Professional League table and could widen its lead to seven points on Saturday, once the match against Defensa y Justicia at the Mâs Monumental is completed.
