River beats Platense in the final group match Marcelo Gallardo's team won 2-1 on the final group matchday, with goals by Paradela and Julian. River will play the quarterfinal match against Tigre, at the Mâs Monumental Stadium.

El Millonario played the match against Platense calmly, knowing it had already secured the qualification for the quarterfinals. Marcelo Gallardo sent onto the pitch several players who hadn’t had the chance to play that much. After some tight opening minutes, River opened the scoring with a nice right-footed shot by Jose Paradela, off a good collective play going from left to right.
Nevertheless, a few minutes later, Brian Mansilla took advantage of a defensive mistake to set the score at 1-1. River went looking for the second goal and had some great scoring chances: first, no one connected a cross coming from Paradela on the right-hand side; then, Cristian Ferreira tried to score from outside the box, but his shot was well saved by Jorge de Olivera.
Javier Pinola had a chance with a header off a corner kick that went high, and Agustin Palavecino put the rival keeper to the test with a low right-hand shot. The last chance of the first half was very clear: Palavecino made an overlapping run up the left-hand side and Haibrany Ruiz Díaz smashed his shot against De Olivera’s right goalpost.
In the 55th minute, Paradela had an unbeatable opportunity to celebrate his second goal, off a pass from Emanuel Mammana, but he missed the goal striking inside the box. Leandro Gonzalez Pirez had another scoring chance, after a series of rebounds off a corner kick, but he scooped a header high over the rival goal.
The long-awaited second goal was conceded from a penalty kick awarded after Ignacio Schor committed a foul on Elias Gomez. Julian Alvarez skillfully took the kick for River to take the lead. The rest of the match went smoothly for River to secure the win: the team accrued 29 points. In the next round, it will play against Tigre seeking to qualify for the semifinals.
