From the beginning, River took control of the ball and started troubling the opposing defence. The first opportunity arrived after an interesting collective play from the right. Then, the time for the first scream of the American evening arrived: following an exquisite deep pass by Exequiel Palacios, Julián Álvarez left Oscar Jiménez behind and scored the first goal.

In the following minutes, after a recovery by Bruno Zuculini, Cristian Ferreira adjusted himself and shot precisely at goal and scored the second one, close to América’s right goalpost. River had another chance, after a pass from Álvarez that Rafael Borré couldn’t connect. The Mexican team got dangerously close through a header by Carlos Vargas which was excellently saved by Germán Lux.

Each team made one last attempt in the first half: Fabrizio Angileri dribbled the ball on the left side but couldn’t find a mate in the small area and Alejandro Díaz made a header that was also saved by River Plate’s goalkeeper.

During the second half, River didn’t give up the match and adjusted itself in the playing field. Gonzalo Montiel appeared in an attack from the right and fired a powerful shot that passed really close to Jiménez’s left goalpost. In another play, Ferreira shot again from the outside after a feint but the ball was stopped by the goalkeeper.

Lux made his presence felt again in a stupendous intervention after a header by Vargas, which he caught near the ground and off-balance. Benjamín Rollheiser carried it well towards the opposing area and made a good pass to Borré, but the right-footed shot by the Colombian player was saved by Juárez. In the next play, the young forward tried from the outside, with good aim. After this victory, el Millionario brought its participation in the Colossus Cup to a close with two triumphs.
