In October, the world month for the fight against cancer, River Plate and LALCEC get together to raise awareness of the importance of prevention and early detection of this disease. To such an end, they will develop an awareness campaign, that stands out due to the inclusion of LALCEC’s pink ribbon —characteristic symbol of the fight against this disease— in the team’s apparel in the seventh round of the tournament, against Atlético de Rafaela.

Early detection is the key to the fight against breast cancer, which is the main cause of death in women with tumours. Currently in Argentina, every year, more than 18,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed and more than 5,400 women died due to this disease. 95% of cases are curable if detected in time.

Data on breast cancer
October, 19 is the international day of the fight against breast cancer. One every eight women suffers breast cancer throughout her life. 95% of breast cancers are curable if detected in time.

Primary prevention: practising the following habits may reduce up to 40% the chances of cancer: eating healthy, protecting from sun exposure; avoiding infections, overweight, sedentary lifestyle, tobacco and alcohol.

Secondary prevention: the chances for cure of breast cancers that are detected at an early stage are virtually 100%. That is why it is important to have a mammogram performed periodically, once every three years for women under 40 years of age and once a year from age 50, taking into consideration that the chances of contracting it grow substantially over the years. It is recommended to perform every two months the self-examination and, in case of touching or seeing anything strange, urgently resort to the doctor.
