A new training week has begun at the ESPN Complex in Orlando and the players chosen by Marcelo Gallardo, are working with effort to be in their best shape for their next commitments. Gonzalo Montiel is one of the players that emerged from River’s Academy, and explains that at his beginnings he played as a central defender, then in the reserve team, he went to the midfield and today he is playing as a right-back defender.

While some players may have difficulty adapting to a position change, Montiel affirms that it was easy for him: "I was already playing in different positions with no problem each time." Today Jorge Moreira is also running for the position, giving rise to a very healthy competition”
The pre-season training is intense, but despite the fatigue of daily work, Montiel says that everything is running smoothly and that he tries to improve on daily bases. "Always defend first and then move on to the attack", he responds when asked about the characteristics a player must have in his position.

Since his debut in 2016 till today, Montiel gained value, and assures: "I'm doing my bit for the team."
