This Wednesday at noon, Marcelo Gallardo gave a press conference at the Auditorio Room at the Monumental Stadium. It is the same place where he goes after each game to talk about them.

“There was a reason for this conference, and there was something to be said. These past few days weren’t easy for me: I had been thinking about taking a step back, stop everything and think about myself. Thanks to this introspection, I decided I will continue one more year”, said one of the most successful coaches in the history of the Club.

Gallardo also said: “My heart tells me to stay here, it is what I feel. I needed those days to realize what I wanted. I made a mistake by saying I was going to take a few days to think about it, I didn’t think about the impact my words would have. I really felt the love and the appreciation from the fans”.

El Muñeco then added: “I couldn’t say goodbye to such a strong relationship with the fans, with the institution and with the leadership of the Club. I am a sensible and quick-tempered person, I make many decisions with my heart. These days were hard. There were many lies and mistaken conclusions, and everybody should be held accountable for what they said. I can express myself in this way because I am very transparent and I don’t like to have a two-faced discourse”.

Concerning what comes next, Gallardo said: “Next year will be great, we will play at the Libertadores Cup and we will continue to play the tournament. We will face things in the same way we have been doing it, we will try to be as competitive as we have been. I want to stay, I know this recess will be good to come back with energy”.

Gallardo also talked about his relationship with the Club: “My relationship with River goes beyond the results, and they let me know it from the first day till today. This relationship with the fans and with the leadership is very strong, specially because of my commitment to the institution”.

“It is good to know where we stand and where we are going. To still be River’s coach after two and a half years gives me great pride. We want to continue building a team that these past six months prepared for two clear purposes and achieved them”, the coach explained.

Then he concluded: “I have been one of the most stable coaches in this sport. I am glad and happy because I made the right decision. The players realized I had to think about the situation, and they respected that. I’m staying to double the bet, not just because”.
