In a press conference held this Wednesday, November 5, at the Mâs Monumental Session Hall, President Stefano Di Carlo and Marcelo Gallardo agreed to extend the first team's head coach’s contract until December 31, 2026.

Joined by members of the Board of Directors, Di Carlo said: “This decision is two-fold. Firstly, it honors the promise we made to our supporters — we have always said that River’s football project bears one name: Marcelo Gallardo. Secondly, it reflects my conviction, and that of those who work alongside me, that processes and projects must be supported, particularly in challenging times. I have complete faith in his work ethic and commitment.”

He added: “We are firmly convinced that by working closely together, we can turn things around. There is complete alignment — this is a new starting point to reaffirm our shared goal. We will stay the course, as we have full faith in the capability of this coaching staff, and Marcelo is the best choice for River.”

Meanwhile, Gallardo stated: “This is a moment of sporting adversity; we are not detached from reality. What keeps me going is my confidence, drive, and energy to give everything for what lies ahead. I want to give a special shout-out to the fans who show genuine, unconditional support at this time. That is also a symbol that deserves recognition. I am fully committed, and I wish to thank Stefano, the Board of Directors, and all our supporters.”
