Argentine Cup: River thrashes Salta's Laferrere Marcelo Gallardo's team beat Deportivo Laferrere 5-0 with goals by Bruno Zuculini, Julian Alvarez, Juanfer Quintero, Andres Herrera, and Jose Paradela.

In a province that welcomed the team with arms wide open, River had a very productive night and qualified for the next stage of the Argentine Cup. With River advancing the ball up the field but finding it hard to penetrate, Julian Alvarez had a scoring chance in the 1st minute, off a great pass from Juanfer Quintero, but the rival keeper blocked his shot. Then, Julian Rodriguez Seguer ran up the right-hand side and struck a weak shot that was easily saved by Franco Armani.

Gallardo’s team went all out and created scoring opportunities thanks to Andres Herrera and Julian, but all their shots, except one that went just wide of the goal, were saved by Carlos Morel. Of a corner kick, Bruno Zuculini won the header and set the score at 1-0. Alvarez had a clear chance, off a great cross from Elias Gomez, but his header was off-target.

He finally scored: Quintero made an on-target pass to Esequiel Barco, who struck a cross toward the center that was headed by Alvarez. Before the end of the first half, Agustin Palavecino pressed during a clearance, recovered the ball, and was fouled on within the box. River’s No. 10 took the penalty kick set the score at 3-0 with a medium-height angled shot.

After such a great first half, River started the second half in the same spirit and before the first minute ended, Julian was prevented from scoring the fourth goal on the line, after Herrera overlapped him from the right-hand side. River kept trying to score, with good penetrating runs on both sides, and finally Nico De La Cruz had his chance thanks to a high header off a cross from Gomez.

In the final minutes, Herrera scored his first goal wearing the River jersey: he fought for the ball on the right-hand side and struck a right-footed crossed shot, setting the score at 4-0 in Salta. Toward the end, Jose Paradela sent a pass from Braian Romero into the goal and celebrated River’s fifth goal of the night. River now awaits the result of the match between Barracas Central and Acassuso to find out which team will be its next rival. In the meantime, the team will welcome Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata at the Monumental Stadium, on Sunday, on Matchday 6 of the Professional League Cup.
