An unfair loss River came back after being down 0-1 against Vélez and was one goal away from winning, but the rival team set the score 2-1 in the only attack of the second half. Towards the end, el Millionario couldn’t even the score.

El Millionario had a better start, trying to become the protagonist of the match. The first attempt came at the feet of Matías Suárez, who caught it on the left and fired a crossed and deflected shot. Then, the away team threatened with a shot by Nicolás Dominguez from outside that passed close to the left goalpost.

Julián Álvarez also had his chance, through a left-footed shot at the beginning of the area that was saved by Lucas Hoyos at the center of the goal. Vélez responded with a header by Lucas Robertone that was controlled by Franco Armani. In another attack by River, Milton Casco searched for a partner but found none. Furthermore, Andrés Merlos omitted a clear foul by the goalkeeper on Suárez.

Vélez scored the first goal after a crossed right-footed shot by Domínguez, but River deserved to even the score before the half-time: Nacho Fernández had a very clear situation through a shot from outside the area that hit the crossbar and bounced on the field.

In the second half, River was determined to even the score and cornered Vélez. Firstly, Rafael Borré gave a header after a center pass from the right that found Hoyos in the right place and there was another very controversial play in which Álvares was kicked in the ankle in the area. In another one, Suárez almost scores a left-footed goal.

The well-deserved tie arrived after an impressive play by Lucas Martínez Quarta, who came on the left and found Nacho Fernández, who fired a shot setting the score 1-1. In the next play, the defender himself almost scores a left-footed goal out of a corner kick: the shot hit Hoyos’s right goalpost.

Vélez practically didn’t cross to the other half of the field and River went on looking for the second goal. Martínez Quarta won over with a header in one of el Millionario’s many attacks and his shot was saved by Hoyos at the center of the goal. However, in the only attack by the team from Liniers, Almada handled the ball with his hand (Merlos didn’t penalise it) and then Armani knocked him down in the area and the Vélez player set the score 2-1.

Ignacio Scocco tried to score out of a free kick, but Hoyos responded well. Then, the referee awarded River a penalty due to an alleged handball by Domínguez, but the rival goalkeeper figured out Nacho Fernandez’s shot. Thus, el Millionario couldn’t win to get close to the top and will now visit Gimnasia in La Plata, next Saturday.
