Right from the starting minutes, River had a better start to the match and didn't take long to threaten Union’s defense line with a dangerous cross from Braian Romero that was saved by Santiago Mele. The home team responded with a clear shot from Diego Polenta off a corner kick.

Off a long-range pass, Romero won the header and passed the ball to Julian Alvarez, who took his time, got comfortable and set up Romero for a goal. Romero kept possession under pressure from a defender and softly tapped the ball, setting the score 1-0 for River. Then, the team could have widened the lead, but Nicolas De La Cruz failed to strike accurately at goal. On one of the last chances of the first half, Franco Armani reacted incredibly to a shot from Kevin Zenon while facing him, followed by a header from Mariano Peralta Bauer that smashed against the crossbar.

In the second half, Union had the first scoring chance in the 10th minute, off a series of rebounds following a free kick from the left-hand side. River responded forcefully: once again, Julian set up Enzo Fernandez, who skillfully scored when the home keeper came off his line.

Union could have reduced the deficit, running up the left-hand side of the field, but Armani reacted wonderfully to prevent Luna Diale from scoring. River didn’t take long to counterattack, striking two consecutive shots on goal: the first chance arrived at Romero’s feet and the second one was set up by Alvarez, but his shot went high. Finally, River’s third goal was scored thanks to a low shot from Julian off an exquisite assist from Agustin Palavecino.

Union reduced the deficit near the end, with a header by Peralta Bauer, but Gallardo's team quickly scored the fourth goal, thanks to Agustin Palavecino off a pass from Esequiel Barco, and the fifth goal, thanks to Julian off a pass from Juanfer Quintero. Thus, River celebrated its first Professional League win after two draws and one loss. On the next matchday, el Millonario will welcome Lanus at the Mâs Monumental Stadium on Saturday.
