Before the 3rd minute, Atletico Tucuman tried to surprise River with a midfield shot from Joaquin Pereyra, but Franco Armani guessed the trajectory of the ball, which landed on the top of the goal. El Millonario responded with two shots from Esequiel Barco: first, he struck a shot from outside the box; then, he collected a rebound off a corner kick and struck a long-range shot that was saved by Carlos Lampe.

River kept trying to open the scoring so that it reflected the team’s performance on the playing field: Agustin Palavecino struck a long-range shot and Bruno Bianchi almost scored an own goal off a cross from Andres Herrera on the right-hand side. On another run up field, Julian Alvarez couldn’t shoot comfortably, and his cross was controlled by Lampe.

River’s clearest scoring chance consisted in a good combination play between Julian and Enzo Fernandez, but the midfielder was prevented from scoring by Ciro Rius when one-on-one with Lampe. At the end of the first half, River Plate’s keeper reacted amazingly to save a shot from Ramiro Carrera from outside the box.

At the beginning of the second half, Gallardo’s team had two very clear scoring chances in a row thanks to Elias Gomez: his header was saved by Lampe, as well as his scissor kick aimed at Lampe’s right post. When Tomas Pochettino and Jose Paradela came onto the field, River set up a good play that culminated in a shot from No. 26, also saved by Lampe.

El Millonario took over the match while Atletico Tucuman dropped deep and focused on the counterattack. On another run up field, Julian tried to score from outside the box, but his right-footed shot went wide of Lampe’s right goalpost. River’s No. 9 had another chance when facing the goal, but his shot went high over the crossbar. Toward the end, Herrera was also close to scoring.

River picked up its second goalless draw, after the debut against Defensa y Justicia, and will now play two matches in a row as away team in Santa Fe: on Wednesday against Colon and on Sunday against Union.
