River practically prevented San Lorenzo from thinking, setting the pace of the first half from the very beginning. El Millonario cornered its rival and threatened it on the sides, with Pablo Solari opening up the right-hand side of the field, and Nico De La Cruz and Milton Casco on the left. River’s No. 16 had the first chance, running up the field and striking a right-footed shot saved by Augusto Batalla by the near post. Then, the Uruguayan midfielder tried to score from outside the box. The third scoring chance was a result of a good move by Santiago Simon, who ultimately failed to shot on target.

Meanwhile, San Lorenzo tried to score through isolated plays and a header from Adam Bareiro saved by Franco Armani. River stood firm and deserved to take the lead. As more chances kept coming, Emanuel Mammana collected a rebound off a corner kick and set the score at 1-0. Esequiel Barco, active on the left-hand side, almost scored off a through pass from Enzo Perez. In the last part of the first half, the home team pressed River and had a chance with a free kick from Bareiro that was saved by the River Plate keeper.

Before the 2nd minute, Gallardo’s team kept the same idea of play and threatened San Lorenzo twice: first, with a shot from outside the box; then, with an interesting play by Barco within the box. Everything was smooth for River until the home team set up a play on the left-hand side: Jalil Elias struck a rebound off a cross in mid-air, but his shot went high. Near the 75th minute, Herrera was sent off after double.

The end of the match was tough, but the team held up despite San Lorenzo's momentum and dangerous plays. River now has 32 points and has regained some ground in the top half of the chart. River’s next match will take place next Saturday, against Cordoba’s Talleres, at the Mâs Monumental.
