The game had a frantic start with River taking the lead in the 2nd minute: a great run up the right wing by Pablo Solari followed by a quick advance by Miguel Borja to set the score at 1-0. The Colombian player almost scored again, but his right-footed shot went just wide of the near post. River was in control over the following minutes, but the away team evened the score on a set piece, with a header from Ronaldo Martínez.
For the remainder of the first half, River was in control and tried to tippy-tap its way to the rival goal, but failed to make it the whole way through to threaten the goal. In the starting minutes of the second half, the team managed by Demichelis cornered Platense and threatened with some runs up the wings. On another run upfield, Solari failed to strike an on-target shot off a cross from the left wing.
On one of Platense’s few attacking chances, Nicolás Castro struck a shot on goal from outside the box. In spite of this, River set the score at 2-1 thanks to a subtle tap-in goal from Nacho Fernández off an on-target cross from Solari, following a play on the right wing. Enzo Díaz had a good chance to score the third goal, but his left-footed shot off a free kick went high.
River stood firm and focused on all lines until the end and claimed three very important points to maintain the five-point lead at the top of the table. The team's next match will be on May 25th, playing away against Sporting Cristal, for the CONMEBOL Libertadores. Regarding the local tournament, River will visit Vélez in Liniers, next Monday.
