Torino has launched a jersey as a tribute to its friendship with River

The relationship between River Plate and the Italian team was born out of the Superga disaster, which happened on May 4th, 1949, and the great gesture made by the Club, under the presidency of Antonio Vespucio Liberti, who offered River’s starting squad to play a friendly match as a tribute to the plane crash victims and donate the money collected to their families.

As another display of the brotherhood between both clubs and, as it has happened on other occasions, Torino has launched a very special jersey for this season: the away kit displays details of this historical relationship. The maroon band over the white background reads “ETERNA AMISTAD” (Eternal Friendship) and the legend “ETERNA AMICIZIA Torino, 26 maggio 1949 ETERNA AMISTAD” is written on the inside of the jersey’s neck.

It is also worth noting that River set up similar initiatives throughout the years: the last edition was set up in June 2019, on the 70th anniversary of the tragedy, with the launch of a maroon jersey and a patch in commemoration of the historic match played on May 26th, 1949, reading “#EternaAmicizia”. Furthermore, the numbers on the back and the shorts displayed the Torino logo.
