The champion of the Americas showed its identity in the playing field from the beginning of the match, trying to reach Leonardo Burián’s goal at ground level to threaten. After an overlapping run made by Matías Suárez, following a subtle pass from Rafael Borré, Nicolás De La Cruz didn’t reach the ball entering through the heart of the box.

River didn’t lose control of the ball and wasn’t suffering in the attack, but couldn’t get close. Exequiel Palacios tried some filtered passes that reached their destination, but the final touch was missing. In another clear play, Milton Casco made a great pass to Suárez, who tried to lob Burián, and the ball grazed Colón’s left goalpost.

At the beginning of the second half, el Millionario had the first opportunity after a rebound caught by Borré, who fired a tremendous right-footed shot that Burián was able to touch. Then, Palacios tried again from outside, but his shot was controlled by the rival goalkeeper. Finally, a right-footed bomb by Nicolás De La Cruz, following a long cross by Suárez, set the score 1-0,

River kept on looking for the second goal and was getting close to it thanks to attempts by Palacios and Nacho Fernández from outside. Meanwhile, Colón got closer on the left with a pass that Wilson Morelo wasn’t able to kick. Juan Quintero returned to the Monumental Stadium and, as soon as he could, threatened Burián from outside, but Borré was expecting the rebound and scored, widening the lead.

In the last ten minutes, Lucas Martínez Quarta deflected a cross from the left and scored an own goal, crediting Colon a point, but el Millionario was not startled and got the three points. After this victory, el Millionario temporarily got to the top of the Superleague chart. Now, the next challenge will be next Saturday night, against Aldosivi in Mar del Plata.
