Argentina didn’t take long to control the game, even though it had difficulty in creating dangerous plays. On the 9th minute, after a free kick from the right side, Cristian Romero won the header sending the ball into the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Peru responded with another clear chance to score: a set piece at the edge of the box and a great reaction from Emiliano Martinez.

The National Team went for the first goal trying to cause the opposing team to make clearance errors. Angel Di Maria tried to leverage his skills on the left side; he had a clear chance with a volley off an on-target crossed pass from Rodrigo De Paul, but he failed to direct his shot into the net. At the end of the first half, after a great play set up on the right side, Nahuel Molina found Leandro Martinez and the forward scored a powerful header, setting the score at 1-0.

In the second half, Peru had the chance to even the score through a penalty, but Yoshimar Yotun smashed his shot against the bar. The National Team wasn’t in overwhelming control of the match, but it played well, and that was enough to win. Toward the end, Guido Rodriguez had a head goal disallowed for a foul.

Argentina added its third consecutive win at the Monumental Stadium without conceding goals in any of those matches. Thus, it gets even closer to the World Cup that will be held next year in Qatar.
