Since 2018, December 9th stopped being a day like any other for River fans. For River fans and for the entire football world: that day, in Madrid, the greatest sporting deed took place and it will never be forgotten. There's no way back. El Millionario won the CONMEBOL Libertadores cup against its life-long rival, and went into eternity, because, even though other cups may be won, this one already occupies an unforgettable place.

That's why, right after the match against San Lorenzo ended, the Monumental stadium began to celebrate. The stadium's halls and stairways matched the celebration from the beginning, as well as the grandstands, which had the mosaic “9 DIC". As midnight approached, live music by Turf and El Choque Urbano rumbled on the four sides, while images of the historic conquest of America were shown.

Some spectacular fireworks brightened the sky. Gonzalo Montiel and Rodrigo Mora joined the players of the professional team and Marcelo Gallardo (together with Rodolfo D'Onofrio and Leonardo Ponzio) took the floor in the middle of the field, receiving an ovation from the whole stadium.

“Thank you very much, from the bottom of my heart. I'm going to speak on behalf of the three parts, with the President of the Club and the captain. We wanted the party to be complete, but no loss will overshadow the world's most beautiful victory and conquest; we may lose some matches, but that victory will not be erased. I want to thank this group of players, I feel very proud, you've made me live the most beautiful and happiest year of my life. Thank you for sharing it with us and for continuing to work with humility, sacrifice, and dedication; that is what we are. I know you value that and I identify with that. Enjoy this party, this day. Let’s walk on the street feeling proud on this December 9th as well as on the ones to come”, Gallardo expressed, moved.

Then, a white tarpaulin covered the Monumental stadium's playing field and an unmissable video was projected on it, showing the best moments of the CONMEBOL Libertadores and, of course, the final at Santiago Bernabéu stadium. The night finished with more fireworks, but this was just the beginning of a series of celebrations which promise to continue throughout the country and the world.
